I am an early career researcher interested in developing new microscopy techniques and understanding of metals used in extreme environments, such as nuclear power, aerospace and oil and gas. I lead the Experimental Micromechanics Group of Postdoctoral Researchers, PhD & Masters Students, and Academic Visitors. I am a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist and Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. I can be found on Twitter (as @bmatb) often talking about equality, diversity and inclusion, the academic research landscape, and materials science and engineering.
